Review: Onyx Webb Book 2- Andrea Waltz and Richard Fenton

Rate:
5/5

Goodreads Description:
Best-Selling Authors Fenton & Waltz Welcome You to the World of Onyx Webb. This is Book Two. (Episodes 4, 5, and 6) One reviewer says, "Fabulous. Different. Odd. Crazy. Wonderful. I've never read anything like it. You've created the weirdest, coolest new genre of fiction and I love it."
The Onyx Webb series follows the unusual life of Onyx Webb along with a central group of characters in various locations and times. Written like a book version of a supernatural soap opera, each character’s story moves forward with most every episode. It may appear that the characters are entirely unrelated and yet episode by episode, the connections will become clearer And this is especially true in Book Two. Like being an inch away from a spider web, with each book, the web will move further and further away revealing the full story of every character and most importantly, the stunning conclusion for Onyx Webb herself.
In Book Two... It's the 30's and Declan Mulvaney and best friend Tommy Bilazzo learrn to survive at the Open Arms Orphange despite the adults who run the place. It’s 2010, and Koda Mulvaney is insane trying to see the girl in the mirror again. Onyx Webb is finds herself living all over the country married to the crazy German, Ulrich, with no way out.

Review:
I have previously stated my love for this series, for the story lines and how they smoothly flow into one another and for the unique way it is written in.
This series is a ten part series that I will leave down for you to either buy or know when it comes out.
I did have to reread the first book since it was a while since I last read it but I did not mind in the least. This installment starts soon after that and continue with the last characters. As we read in we do get introduced to new characters. I think my new favorite for this book, last book my favorite was Koda, in this one I would have to say its the Sister. I mean, there was one particular episode, I believe it was actually the 4th episode that just hit me in the face with her. I do mean this in the best way possible. She is speaking of how she is pretty much gods messenger but whatever it is that she did, god would understand. REGARDLESS IF IT WAS THE RIGHT THING TO DO. Her logic is pretty much, this is better in the long run, god isn't stopping me, so its right, he gets me. And I was like

I just could not even XD
Onyx's story got more intense of course and I still cant stand her husband. I never will. That is all I will say. End of story on that. So back to the important. It always impresses me, each and every episode the way that these 2 authors worked together, flawlessly seaming everything together, you cant tell who wrote what but it is all one collective voice. Which is not an easy feat, it takes a lot to be able to do that, I know because I have tried. What ends up happening is that each person has their own voice in a text or they try to mimic the other persons voice but ends up being this bleak sort of writing.

Long story short, Onyx Webb is a superb  series that remains consistent in shocking the readers.

Review:
Lets take a moment to appreciate this absolutely gorgeous cover!

Yeah?

Moment over.

I really loved this book, particularly the end. I feel like I say this with so many books, that I loved them but that if because I tend to read books that I am excited about and know im going to love or are super hyped. Anyways, I was super excited about this because it all seemed super Gossip Girl-ish and I am a huge fan of Gossip Girl
The whole world of the tower is just super cool but scary to me, like some people dont leave the tower at all, there is absolutely everything in this tower, even fake parks and sunlight, like I cant begin to comprehend how this thing was built and how massive it would look like in real life!
Which also leads to the whole, what sort of things must happen inside of this tower.
There is drama of all sorts, stealing, cheating, drugs, alcohol, incest, and good old basic lying.
It started with the fall, goes back some time until the time of the fall and the funeral. The whole time you are reading this is makes you wonder oh my gosh, who is going to fall and you think you know or you want it to be a specific person because you hate them but in the end, you are just as surprised as the person who actually falls!
I was hooked from page 1 and by god you will be too!
Katharine McGee, you did it, you have made the book that  I will not shut up about just as I wouldnt shut up about Gossip Girl until I finished it.

Recommend it?
Yes, for all and all Gossip Girl fans

Review: Heartless by Marissa Meyer

Rate:
5/5

Goodreads Description:

Long before she was the terror of Wonderland — the infamous Queen of Hearts — she was just a girl who wanted to fall in love.

Catherine may be one of the most desired girls in Wonderland, and a favorite of the yet-unmarried King of Hearts, but her interests lie elsewhere. A talented baker, all she wants is to open a shop with her best friend and supply the Kingdom of Hearts with delectable pastries and confections. But according to her mother, such a goal is unthinkable for the young woman who could be the next Queen.

At a royal ball where Cath is expected to receive the king's marriage proposal, she meets Jest, the handsome and mysterious court joker. For the first time, she feels the pull of true attraction. At the risk of offending the King and infuriating her parents, she and Jest enter into an intense, secret courtship.

Cath is determined to define her own destiny and fall in love on her terms. But in a land thriving with magic, madness, and monsters, fate has other plans.

Review:
Oh boy!
It is no secret to anyone that I absolutely love Marissa Meyer, she is easily one of my favorite authors!
And thanks to some people I was able to get my hands on this amazing story a few months before release!
Which is fantastic because I just could not wait a single moment longer.
MINOT SPOILERS AHEAD!
Steps by steps okay?

The cover, oh boy, that cover, I love covers that are simple but pretty and this one is just downright gorgeous, my phone is FILLED with pictures of it to post on bookstagram , it was hard not to keep taking the book with me everywhere to continue to take pictures of it, if I didnt stop myself my bookstagram simply wouldve ended up looking like a Heartless fan account
Which I wouldnt be opposed to I guess
So many characters from the original story are integrated into the book without it feeling as if it was forced into the story. Questions you didnt know you had where answered and so many things end up making sense about the actions of some of the characters.
Catherine starts off with a dream, a dream to start a bakery with her best friend, and maid and be recognized as the greatest baker in all of hearts.
Title be damned.
At the black and white ball she discovers that the King, the daft King wishes nothing more than to marry her, and that ruins not just her dream of having a bakery but her independence.
At the ball though, she meets the Joker
Not THAT joker, but a court joker, a fool.
The most magical joker anyone has ever seen.
Cath finds herself thinking of about the joker often and one night joins him at a late night secret  tea party with the Mad Hatter and company
Catherine knows what she wants, or rather, what she doesnt, and that is to marry the King and become Queen. throughout the story we see her as she struggles with the courage to turn down the King and face the disappointment of her parents
Marissa Meyer does a wonderful job with Catherine not coming out sounding whiny and annoying about the struggles in her life but rather makes it feel like you are struggling right along with her.
The story progresses as things start to slowly fall apart for Catherine until she decides to go through the Looking Glass and effectively leave Hearts behind, there she meets 3 odd sisters who tell her the fate that awaits Catherine, Joker and the Mad Hatter should she make a mistake.
And mistake she does.
I knew something bad had to happen to her for her to become the queen of hearts, but I still found myself shocked at how things ended up going down
From this point on, we see a rapid transformation from her being Catherine the dreamer, to the ruthless Queen of Hearts we know.
I must say this though, the last chapter in the book got me so pumped up, just as much as the last chapter in Fairest, in which we see these girls turn into women, after being beat down by hope and snapping into being completely and utterly
Heartless

Review: Punderdome

Always, huge thanks to Bloggingforbooks.com for this !

Rate: 2/5

I absolutely LOVE puns, love them! Sadly I didnt look much into it, thought the whole game would be a lot easier than it really was u.u
If you follow me on snapchat (@valesbookshelf) , you know I have recently been going up to San Diego quiet often, and well I brought the game on one of those days andddd well...
It really requieres a whole lot of creative to be able to play this game, creative on everyone's part and I feel like it would be achievable but sadly with the time that the rules says you should be spending on it it just isnt enough for all the players to come up with something.
The whole idea of it is great, but for me I think I'll stick to hearing puns, not coming up with them on the spot.

Review: Boy Robot by Simon Curtis and GIVEAWAY

Rate:
3.75/5

Goodreads Description:
Boy Robot is the first in a planned science fiction trilogy that follows a group of synthetic cell human teens with special abilities as they fight against the government organization that created them and now wants to destroy them.

Review:
Okay so the goodreads description at first seemed to be really short to me but got me excited regardless, and now that I have finished the book I realized that that actually does sum up the book
I must give a huge kudos to the author for writing such a wide variety of characters with unique ways of how they find out what they were, or rather that something was different about them. The stories in this book can be quite graphic though, has a bunch of hard scenes whether it be by physical harshness or emotional.
I loved that this book included a transgender girl and both accepting family members and not so accepting family members, making the book more realistic on that aspect. That unfortunately not everyone can be accepting. The books main character is also from the LGBTQ community, so again, yay for uniqueness versus other , or rather MOST popular young adult books.

The drama in the book is good however it could get a bit confusing because there was just SO much going on all around and so freaking fast! It was just like a load of information being thrown at you left and right as you where only just understanding what happened like 10 pages ago, Then again it adds to the characters feelings about the whole thing, how confusing it must've all been for him although he did seem to take it rather well considering everything that was happening.

"Valeria, you're saying a bunch of positive things, why the rating if it looks like you could've given it a 5 out of 5?"

Well when I say there is a lot of information I mean it but there is also alot of information that was left out purposely and could get irritating. I understand that it is for sake of the plot but when the characters around Isaak, the main character, simply kept telling him he was special and important and not saying why even after demonstrating his powers was just too much for me. I mean they tell him he is the key to everything and he is special and powerful but he is still confused about what he even is. Clearly he is what will potentially bring out the organization that pursued them, just like all great young adult series, but we were left just as confused if not more so than the main character.
Now, a great deal of Young Adult books have a love interest of sorts.

WHAT IS GOING ON I MEAN SERIOUSLY! Towards the end there is a scene that just made my confusion worse about 3 particular people >.> I got whiplash from that scene

OVerall? Yes, because this book is completely unlike anything I have read before and is totally worth a read

So I received a copy after requesting it from the publisher and it is how I read the book, then comic con hit like 2 weeks later and my friend had snatched me a copy of Boy Robot without her knowing I already had a copy (which I was actually reading at the time she showed me what book she had for me) So as you can see I ended up with 2 copies of it

Now the giveaway is for one (1) ARC copy and I will either be keeping the other copy or hold another giveaway for the other copy later on. I really did like the diversity and how different the book is compared to other YA books which is why I will probably keep my original copy XD

Review: A Shade of Vampire by Bella Forrest

Rate:
4/5

Goodreads Description:

On the evening of Sofia Claremont's seventeenth birthday, she is sucked into a nightmare from which she cannot wake.

A quiet evening walk along a beach brings her face to face with a dangerous pale creature that craves much more than her blood.

She is kidnapped to an island where the sun is eternally forbidden to shine.
An island uncharted by any map and ruled by the most powerful vampire coven on the planet. She wakes here as a slave, a captive in chains.

Sofia's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn when she is the one selected out of hundreds of girls to join the harem of Derek Novak, the dark royal Prince.

Despite his addiction to power and obsessive thirst for her blood, Sofia soon realizes that the safest place on the island is within his quarters, and she must do all within her power to win him over if she is to survive even one more night.

Will she succeed? ...or is she destined to the same fate that all other girls have met at the hands of the Novaks?

Review:
First in a series, A Shade of Vampire pulls you in from the first few pages
It reminded me of a more intense slightly better version than Twilight. Derek, a prince, falls in love with her at first sight which some could complain that is over done but I was actually feeling it, like I said, more bad ass than Twilight.
The setting, The Shade was made in such a way that even though you know its a place you probably don't want to be at, or should be if you want to live, you would still go to if you had a chance because yeah there is danger there but the way the set up is described, it is just about guaranteed i'd even pay to see that.
My main reason and probably anyones reason that reads the book is because of Derek, yeah he is a prince and everyone dreams of being a princess, but damn, he is just everything. Like everything in the perfect book boyfriend world, hes got it! Strong, of course, loyal, smart among everything else, of course, he is a vampire and when have we ever met a happy vampire, much less a vampire prince. He could come off as demanding even spoiled in my books but it was all a matter of reminding myself of like , okay, if you were born royal, you would probably be the same way you know?
Now, main character
Sofia.... I don't know why authors do this but often times I feel like they do this thing where the female character is written in a way that they probably meant to sound like they are strong and independent and fierce but end up coming out to be as annoying.
Which for me was actually the reason I ended up rating this book a 4 out of 5 instead of 5 out of 5, because of Sofia, I dont know I mean,  maybe its because I was expecting this like huge and dramatic  ending that leaves you with your jaw open and on the edge of your seat just like the book started, but I was actually a bit put off by it
I was about to pin point exactly what is was but then I was like wait, that is spoiling everything Vale, why would you do that? Like I am looking back at the review to add final thoughts and start putting things in to yell out my feelings but its like STOP STOP STOP!
Yall just need to read this for yourselves
