Review: The Crowns Game- Evelyn Skye

Rate:
5/5

Goodreads Description:
Vika Andreyeva can summon the snow and turn ash into gold. Nikolai Karimov can see through walls and conjure bridges out of thin air. They are enchanters—the only two in Russia—and with the Ottoman Empire and the Kazakhs threatening, the Tsar needs a powerful enchanter by his side.

And so he initiates the Crown’s Game, an ancient duel of magical skill—the greatest test an enchanter will ever know. The victor becomes the Imperial Enchanter and the Tsar’s most respected adviser. The defeated is sentenced to death.

Raised on tiny Ovchinin Island her whole life, Vika is eager for the chance to show off her talent in the grand capital of Saint Petersburg. But can she kill another enchanter—even when his magic calls to her like nothing else ever has?

For Nikolai, an orphan, the Crown’s Game is the chance of a lifetime. But his deadly opponent is a force to be reckoned with—beautiful, whip smart, imaginative—and he can’t stop thinking about her.

And when Pasha, Nikolai’s best friend and heir to the throne, also starts to fall for the mysterious enchantress, Nikolai must defeat the girl they both love... or be killed himself.

As long-buried secrets emerge, threatening the future of the empire, it becomes dangerously clear... the Crown’s Game is not one to lose.

Review:

This is actually my first ever book that I get through edelweiss and boy did I struggle at first xD
I mean the instructions to download where right there and I just wasnt getting the book on my kindle and I was getting so frustrated because I was dying to read the book! And then I realized that I had yet to add the edelweiss email on my approved list on kindle xD WHOOPS!

First Chapter:
Okay so after I finally got the book, it was late at night and I was like let me just read the first chapter. The first chapter for me is always so important, it tells you a lot about how the tone of the book will set out to be and it was good! It pulls you in! The next day I carried my tablet every where, and typically I dont like reading on my tablet but I had no choice, the book was going to be so good!

Characters:
There are a lot of different characters that start to be introduced in the beginning, just like any other book >.> But like I was worried because it was going to be really though for me if I had to keep track of all of these different points of views from different people, but thankfully it was only in the beginning, then it was all from the two main characters, Nikolai and Vika.

Story:
I mean right from the summary the plot just pulls you right in, from the start of the book youre already wondering who is the one that will pull the first move and the last move and I just... Im already starting to loose my thoughts because of the emotions that slapped me in the face at the end of the book.

Feelings:
It was late one night and I had reached the last 30% of the book and I was going to read just 10% and  the book was just escalating as the chapters moved on, I was just like okay, just ONE more chapter, ONE more chapter! And I couldnt stop.
LET ME TELL YOU! (Without actually telling you) It was like I was slapped in the face! There is this one particular chapter that you kinda get the feeling of where it is going but when it actually gets there ! OH MY LORD! I gasped, I was in bed, lying down with my tablet and it got THERE and I was like OMG! I got up and I was just like HOLY CROWN! I could not stop freaking out over what it all meant! It was at that moment that I Was like okay, I'm not sleeping until I get to the end of this book!

....
Then it all started to just.... get sad D:
I cant tell you about how it all gets sad because even if I try to word it in a way that tells you my feelings without telling you the actual story, I feel like I will be spoiling it, so I will just leave it at that.

This book is amazing, that is all I have to say.

If you like Red Queen, or The Hunger Games, this is totally a book you need to get as soon as it is out.

Recommend it:
completely 100% Yes, I see what all the hype for this book was about.

Review: Anything you want- Geoff Herbach

Rate:
3.75/5

Goodreads Description:
Expect a bundle of joy—er, trouble—in this hilarious, heartwarming story from the award-winning author of Stupid Fast Geoff Herbach

Taco's mom always said, "Today is the best day of your life, and tomorrow will be even better." That was hard to believe the day she died of cancer and when Taco's dad had to move up north for work, but he sure did believe it when Maggie Corrigan agreed to go with him to junior prom. Taco loves Maggie- even more than the tacos that earned him his nickname. And she loves him right back.

Except all that love? It gets Maggie pregnant. Everyone else may be freaking out, but Taco can't wait to have a real family again. He just has to figure out what it means to be a dad and how to pass calculus. And then there's getting Maggie's parents to like him. Because it would be so much easier for them to be together if he didn't have to climb the side of the Corrigans' house to see her...

Review:
How to properly start?
HEAR ME OUT COMPLETELY, DINGUS
Firstly- I give this book a 3.75 but yeah . On goodreads I gave it a 4/5 because as you kow (maybe) you cant give half stars and 3 seemed like too little so I went with 4

Possible spoilers

Characters: So let me talk about the main character first of all. This book was infuriating when it came to Taco and him being so freaking positive all the time, no matter what he was stupidly happy for everything! Like no person can be that happy ! Like I dont know much about biological anthropology or DNA but I dont think it's in our nature.
They would tell him simple but harsh things and he would be like What? And smile! Like I would get so frustrated and he would just smile on and be like BEST DAY EVER!
This went on for most of the book, like 5/6th of the book but it is the ending that kinda makes it all worth
it
And is the reason I give it 4 stars instead of the 3 on Goodreads, because the ending shows how Taco grew up, he realizes that having the best day ever doesnt always mean happiest day ever.
Now, I'm not saying I agree with his ideas but it sure is realistic and makes you be like yeah OKAY I can see that, I respect that.

End: Taco grew as a character. Sure it wasnt a happy ending, not really, yeah it had good parts but it wasn't a particularly good(happy) ending.
But boy was it realistic
And that, I appreciate that.
For me endings are really a big deal because those are what can make a break a book, like if I read a book that kept me at the edge of my seat for the most part but had a dissapointing ending that was bleak, then the book wasn't worth my time. But this ending made it worth while.

Cover: I found myself looking back at the cover over and over to look at the guys in the cover because I always find it useful when I have an actual person to look at instead of trying to picture it xD But I mean the cover itself is beautiful as well, very vibrant! Makes you feel like the book will be all jolly and pulls you in and you read it and its like woah! But uh yeah thats what I had to say for the cover, it's a very beautiful cover and also with the title itself it gives you more of an idea of who Taco is as a person, that for Maggie he really would do anything.

Recommend it?
Yeah, this is the book that if you give it a chance, it grows on you.

Review:Life-Changing Magic: A Journal: Spark Joy Every Day- Marie Kondo

Rate:
5/5

Goodreads Description:
These four little words have the power to create a revolutionary shift in your mindset. By asking yourself which things, activities, and relationships spark joy—and which don’t—you can mindfully zero in on your ideal life. Peppered with quotes and inspiration from The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, this journal is an invitation to apply Marie Kondo’s principles to not only the objects in your home but also the moments in your life, one day at a time.

Review:
I mean journals like these are always so cool because they often make you think outside the box and about the things going on in your day or the things that COULD go on in your day to try to make it memorable.
It is always nice to be able to go back and see some glimpse of good days, specially for someone like me who tends to forget everything.

Recommend it?
YES, it would make a wonderful gift if not for yourself.

Review: Front Lines by Michael Grant

Rate:
5/5

Goodreads Description:
1942. World War II. The most terrible war in human history. Millions are dead; millions more are still to die. The Nazis rampage across Europe and eye far-off America.

The green, untested American army is going up against the greatest fighting force ever assembled—the armed forces of Nazi Germany.

But something has changed. A court decision makes females subject to the draft and eligible for service. So in this World War II, women and girls fight, too.

As the fate of the world hangs in the balance, three girls sign up to fight. Rio Richlin, Frangie Marr, and Rainy Schulterman are average girls, girls with dreams and aspirations, at the start of their lives, at the start of their loves. Each has her own reasons for volunteering. Not one expects to see actual combat. Not one expects to be on the front lines.

Rio, Frangie, and Rainy will play their parts in the war to defeat evil and save the human race. They will fear and they will rage; they will suffer and they will inflict suffering; they will hate and they will love. They will fight the greatest war the world has ever known.

New York Times bestselling author Michael Grant has created a masterful alternate history of World War II in Front Lines, the first volume in a groundbreaking series.

Review:
Okay, firstly.
GEER AND THE KITTIES!
Whats up with that? I LOVED it!
Secondly, this all just seemed so real it was hard for me not to look up pictures of women soilders during World War 2.
I was beyond excited for this book and I'm glad it did not disappoint me.
You get to feel the fear, excitement and struggle of the characters, they way that they are treated gets to you. You feel for them.
One thing to get off my chest.
I'm team Stafford xD Although I get a feeling that Rio won't end up with anyone in the end, if it WAS a choice, Stafford would be it for me.
Rio has been becoming such a stronger woman, she is a WOMAN to all extends and purposes, all of the characters, they just grown, they are forced to grow because of the war.
And that's the way it truly was.
It was heartbreaking to see how joyful all these characters were and from the first battle, you can get a clear change in them all.
As you can probably tell by this point, its hard for me to form a concrete thought of this book except that it was just so great.
I can not wait for the second installment.

Recommend it?
Totally, yes, get it now

Book of the Month

 Hey guys!
Today I want to talk about a wonderful Subscription box called Book of the Month
Book of the month is of course, a monthly subscription box in which you get to choose a book for the month to read based on your likening.
This months reads were absolutely amazing and I totally had to choose 2 of them!
The first book I chose is

A Mother's Reckoning

Goodreads Description:
On April 20, 1999, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold walked into Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado. Over the course of minutes, they would kill twelve students and a teacher and wound twenty-four others before taking their own lives.

For the last sixteen years, Sue Klebold, Dylan’s mother, has lived with the indescribable grief and shame of that day. How could her child, the promising young man she had loved and raised, be responsible for such horror? And how, as his mother, had she not known something was wrong? Were there subtle signs she had missed? What, if anything, could she have done differently?

These are questions that Klebold has grappled with every day since the Columbine tragedy. In A Mother’s Reckoning, she chronicles with unflinching honesty her journey as a mother trying to come to terms with the incomprehensible. In the hope that the insights and understanding she has gained may help other families recognize when a child is in distress, she tells her story in full, drawing upon her personal journals, the videos and writings that Dylan left behind, and on countless interviews with mental health experts.

Filled with hard-won wisdom and compassion, A Mother’s Reckoning is a powerful and haunting book that sheds light on one of the most pressing issues of our time. And with fresh wounds from the recent Newtown and Charleston shootings, never has the need for understanding been more urgent.

The second one that I choose was

Flight of Dreams by Ariel Lawhon

Goodreads Description:
On the evening of May 3rd, 1937, ninety-seven people board the Hindenburg for its final, doomed flight to Lakehurst, New Jersey. Among them are a frightened stewardess who is not what she seems; the steadfast navigator determined to win her heart; a naive cabin boy eager to earn a permanent spot on the world’s largest airship; an impetuous journalist who has been blacklisted in her native Germany; and an enigmatic American businessman with a score to settle. Over the course of three hazy, champagne-soaked days their lies, fears, agendas, and hopes for the future are revealed.

Flight of Dreams is a fiercely intimate portrait of the real people on board the last flight of the Hindenburg. Behind them is the gathering storm in Europe and before them is looming disaster. But for the moment they float over the Atlantic, unaware of the inexorable, tragic fate that awaits them.

Brilliantly exploring one of the most enduring mysteries of the twentieth century, Flight of Dreams is that rare novel with spellbinding plotting that keeps you guessing till the last page and breathtaking emotional intensity that stays with you long after.

Once you choose the books arrive insanely fast (they ship on the 7th of each month), the reads are wonderful, it is honestly hard to pick which one you want to read. I started my first read already and it is VERY intense.
