Review: Walk on earth a stranger by Rae Carson

Rate:
5/5

Goodreads Description:

Gold is in my blood, in my breath, even in the flecks in my eyes.

Lee Westfall has a strong, loving family. She has a home she loves and a loyal steed. She has a best friend—who might want to be something more.

She also has a secret.

Lee can sense gold in the world around her. Veins deep in the earth. Small nuggets in a stream. Even gold dust caught underneath a fingernail. She has kept her family safe and able to buy provisions, even through the harshest winters. But what would someone do to control a girl with that kind of power? A person might murder for it.

When everything Lee holds dear is ripped away, she flees west to California—where gold has just been discovered. Perhaps this will be the one place a magical girl can be herself. If she survives the journey.

The acclaimed Rae Carson begins a sweeping new trilogy set in Gold Rush-era America, about a young woman with a powerful and dangerous gift.

Review:
One of the things I like best about this book is not that Lee (Leah) has these magical powers of being able to sense gold but rather that it touches on the fact of womens role back in the day and how they were treated and to be honest, how they are treated today.
After Lee looses everything, she has a choice to make, try to continue her life or move on to California. She finds the cruel reality of a family member and leaves to make the journey.
But she can't do so by looking like a woman so she changes herself to look like a boy.
Throughout the journey, she feels more respected that when she was a woman.
The journey is HARSH! I honestly wasnt expecting to like this book so much, I just couldnt imagine findint the journey enjoyable to read, how it could not be repetitive.
But boy was I wrong! Carson did a magnificent job in giving readers an idea of how harsh it could get, how people reacted to their surroundings, and the conditions but at the same time keeping people hooked onto the story and still having a solid plot line.
Characters- I freaking loved the characters in this book. Not gonna lie, the college men are my favorites but towards the end of the book, Becky was growing on me, she had one of the biggest changes in the book. Lee stayed solidly strong but at the same time still showed that she was still a girl on the inside, scared of the world and in need of her parents, Jefferson grew stronger.
The things that the whole group (cuz there are a bunch more than what I mentioned) went through united them in a way that I can only beg and hope that I will still see in the next book.

Also, seriously freaking GORGEOUS cover for this book and the next installment as well!

Yes, entirely !

Review: Magpies and Magic

Rate:
 4/5
Goodreads Description:
Trouble is afoot in the world of Minaturia: holy war in the East, revolution brewing in the old states of Middlita and rumours of war in the West.
Kolan, a ginger-haired warrior for hire, with his new companion, a magpie called Malcolm, struggle to make a living joining any party of adventurers that will take them.
Malcolm dreams of returning home to his own world, where everything and everyone was much larger. No one believes his stories of a world of giants with no magic. Kolan wishes he would get a big break : he is tired of being the last warrior chosen in every situation. Little does he know that he is about to be propelled into an epic adventure with Malcolm, uncovering the rise of an ancient menace and changing their lives forever!

Review:
This story is amazing
I mean from the very beginning it's full of magic, just like the title.
Princess Candera is cursed after trying to save her father from an evil wizard.
Kolan, a newly turned hero after slaying a dragon, that has let fame get to his head.
Malcom, a talking magpie who accompanies Kolan.
Kolan is recruited to go out on a quest with the cursed princess in order to try and reverse the curse and after recruiting a band of heroes, unlikely heroes, the quest begins!
Author Tim Lewis created a wonderful world in which the characters are so unique and the adventures just pull you in. I don't think there is ever a moment in this book that was boring.
There is just so much to this book: dragons, ogres, elves, wizards, dwarves, talking animals, giants, war! It all just leaves you to wonder, who can you trust?
The book is definitely descriptive so you always have a clear image in your head of what was going on, as if you were watching a movie.
The only thing I struggled with was the names, the author totally got creative with the names and since SOME of the names arent common nmes, I struggled to remember who was who because there are so many people coming into the plot line.
That's  the only reason this book didnt get 5 out of 5

Yup, one of a kind

Review: The Deleted Emails of Hillary Clinton by John Moe

Rate:
5/5

Goodreads Description:
The explosive secret e-mails Hillary Clinton doesn’t want you to read
(Or maybe she does…She’s crafty like that.)

Remember that time Hillary Clinton admitted that she deleted thousands of e-mails from her ultra-secret personal e-mail address while Secretary of State? Thousands of e-mails, she claimed, about her daughter’s wedding? Well, people aren’t buying it: “Hiding the truth” says The New York Post.“Conspiracy or incompetence?” asks Al-Jazeera. “Hillary Clinton Don’t Give a Sh*t” claims Wonkette. Clearly, these e-mails need to be released immediately.

Now, thanks to John Moe and WikiLoox, the lost messages have been retrieved and placed in this dossier. For the first time, we’ll get a look inside HRC’s well-coiffed head, reading intimate conversations with family (Bill, Chelsea), friends (Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Oprah, Beyonce), and frenemies (Obama, Palin, Putin) alike. We’ll also learn essential details about her private life, from her pop-culture obsessions to her thoughts on yoga, baking cookies, "Scandal," and much more.

Make no mistake—this is a book of critical national importance. Following her journey from mother-of-the-bride to commandress-in-chief, we’ll see how HRC handles the most challenging situations she might face in the White House, including how to respond to people who "reply all" to e-mails and how to wrangle pantsuit retailers as they compete, with increasing desperation, for her attention. Along the way, we will finally get the portrait we need—the one our country deserves—of the woman we may soon call "Madam President."

Review:

I actually really enjoyed this parody and after reading a few of them in the past and being dissapointed by them I though parodies werent for me but yay, turns out THOSE were just not for me

This book is short and very funny this is one of the few that I have enjoyed, it is silley and set all through email formats so the book itself just goes even faster, goes from pantsuits and taking over the world to NOT deciding *wink* to run for president in 2016

Seriously loled at the sillyness of some of the emails xD
Good job John xD

Review: Fast food manic by Jon Hein

Rate:
3/5

Goodreads Description:
The beloved personality from The Howard Stern Show celebrates American fast food, exploring the history and secret menu items of both national and regional chains, ranking everything from burgers and fries to ice and mascots, and offering his own expert tips on where to go and what to order.

Jon Hein is the ultimate fast food maniac, and in this book he draws on his extensive knowledge of, and love for, both nationwide chains and regional gems, from McDonald’s and KFC to In-N-Out Burger and Carvel. He digs into their origin stories; reveals secret menu items; includes best lists for everything from fried chicken and shakes to connoisseur concerns such as straws and biscuits; takes a nostalgic look back at the best giveaways, slogans, and uniforms; and even provides a battle-tested drive-thru strategy. With behind-the-counter looks at places like the Dunkin' Donuts headquarters and Nathan's original hot dog stand, Fast Food Maniac is the definitive, cross-country guide to some of America's best-loved guilty pleasures.

Review:
So what this book did was have hundreds of restaurants in it and have information like opening year and founders, where it started, secret menu and such information it was then followed by a short story of the restaurent.

To be honest it wasn't much to it, it's not a very memorable book and thought it was going to be a bit more interesting that it really was.

Topic Tuesday: Ebooks Vs Physical Books

Episode 23: Ebboks vs Physical

I am a HUGE fan of physical books because seriously, nothing beats being able to hold a book in your hands and being  able to flip the pages as you read.

Don't get me wrong, a book is a book and I love them non the less. But the reason I will always pick a physical book over an ebook is because I get sick...

Ever since I became an avid reader my sight has started to get blurry. Now, its not that bad but it is noticeable.

Glasses are expensive soooo I am still glassless xD

"You can zoom in with an ebook"
You can but these past couple of months whenever I spend a little too much time in front of a screen, my eyes start to burn and then I get all nauseous >.> Its a horrible feeling really

And when I read, I like to binge read!

I have sadly had to delicine books in the past that are offered as ebooks because I just know it will take me longer to get through than a normal book. I will only accept an ebook if I am absolutely DYING to read and I force myself to get past the burn xD

Ebooks are pretty great for me right before I go to sleep though, I don't like wasting a lot of light in my house so about an hour before I sleep, I turn off the light no matter water. I try to keep the lights to a minimum so sometimes I don't even turn them on at all, when this happens, I pull out my tablet and read from there or watch Netflix or whatever.

The point?

I cant save light with a physical book at night.

But heck, it isn't a law so if a physical book is damned good, I will pull an all nighter if needed to finish the book xD

This actually recently happened with Walk on Earth a Stranger, seriously in love with that book at the moment!

So to answer... I do prefer physical books over ebooks but sometimes ebooks can be practical, specially because you can carry like 100 books in a tablet for the space or weight of a single book

Review: Cats in Paris by Won-Sun Jang

Rate:
5/5

Goodreads Description:
This gorgeously illustrated adult coloring book draws readers into the secret world of cats in Paris as they explore the city's most famous (and feline-friendly) spots.

Say bonjour to the cats of Paris as they slink through its fabled streets and alleyways, from Montmartre to the Shakespeare and Company bookshop and into a feline-filled land of playful imagination. Featuring intricate pen-and-ink drawings of tabbies, Persians, Siamese, and more, this evocative coloring book’s frisky kitties lie in wait for your colorful stylings.

Review:

I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS BOOK!

First off, the cover is so much more gorgeous than it shows in the picture, the details really stand out and makes it so much more special.
This book is somewhat unique because unlike other coloring books I have come across (for adults) it doesnt seem like its just a printed coloring page that was previously enhanced, if I make any sense, the drawings in it seem like they were just sketched by the artist.
They have an imperfect perfection to them that I love.

Topic Tuesday: Book Duplicates

Episode 23: Book Duplicates yes or no?

For me..... I want to say no, why would I do that if I already have the book once

But im guilty of this xD

I was SUPER guilty of this when it came to Harry Potter and The Lunar Chronicles.

For TLC I had the books in hardback, paperback, AND Ebook, and I wanted the ARCs as well >.>
Then one day I was like I need to get a grip of myself and gave the paperback copies to a friend I had been talking to about TLC a lot and he wanted to check them out so I was like well HERE! Have these !

Amazing friend, I know !

I also gave up on getting the ARCs even though I would love to read the differences between the finished copy and the ARC

Here is why I dont like book duplicates- if I did have duplicates for all the books I love, I would not have much space. For some people they have duplicates because they LOVE the series a lot and want to have the latest cover. THAT I totally understand, but the thing I dont understand is when people have like... 2 hardcovers that have the same cover.... Like why do you want to have to exact books like that?

To each their own xD None of MY business why people want to have the exact cover twice.
Now the current book I have duplicates of is Red Queen
I have the UK paperback which was a gift from my best friend and the US Hardcover which I had traded for and had gotten at the same time.
Now, ive been wanting to get rid of one of them but like. The US hardcover is a lot easier for me to find than getting Glass Sword in UK paperback.... but the UK paperback for Red Queen was a gift so its totally killing me to get rid of it !

Anyways, thats ... I think thats the only book I have duplicates of, I mean ive had more but I have traded them away or they are pending to become gifts

Do YOU have any book duplicates?
